Food you can find at Thao's...

Banh Mi
The traditional French-style baguette, inherited from the French originally in the mid 1800’s but adopted by Saigon during the 1950s – and now in Newcastle with a truly southern Vietnamese flavour! Thao makes three different versions: the Saigon Classic with pork bologna (otherwise known as Vietnamese sausage), pate, mayo, and pickles, BBQ beef with mayo and pickles, and Lemongrass chicken with mayo and pickles. Add yourself a fried egg for £1 and you’ve got one humdinger of a flavourful sarnie!
NOTE: We have also introduced a delish vegan/vegetarian version, but it will have limited availability.

Pho
The pho-nomenal (!) Vietnamese noodle dish (and soooo much more than just a "soup"!) made by Thao in an authentic southern style (not found anywhere else in Newcastle!). Enjoy succulent, tender slices of beef, with green leaves and bean sprouts, plus a side dish of a truly southern special, sate (a mix of hoisin, sweet chili, and chili oil - just be aware that it adds a kick!). Only currently available on weekends (together with another classic noodle dish, Bun Bo Hue), so save up your Pho addiction for Saturdays/Sundays!

Bun Thit Nuoung
This southern Vietnamese gem is one of the most popular dishes around Saigon. Expect cold vermicelli noodles, topped with succulent slices of grilled pork, fresh Saigon-style salad, and a sliced up spring roll. Add Thao's homemade fish sauce to taste, and you have yourself one delicious dish!

Com Ga
The southern-style version of one of Vietnam's simple yet timeless classics, chicken and rice. Thao ramps this classic up with her Phu Yen childhood memories, in other words, memories of her mother's turmeric-infused rice, caramelised chicken, and sweet and slightly spicy Saigon-style salad come to the fore. And don't forget to pour some of Thao's fish sauce over that rice and chicken! Chicken and rice like you've never tasted!
One of Vietnam's true street food gems which can be found everywhere (and also known as Summer Rolls, or Fresh Spring Rolls), this timeless classic is made fresh daily from rice paper (dipped in water), and filled with a variety of options including king prawn, BBQ chicken, and, yes, the ultimate taste sensation...avocado and smoked salmon! Coupled with either a mouthwatering peanut sauce or more savoury fish sauce, this is Thao's budget-friendly option for those getting started with Vietnamese street food!

Vietnamese Coffee
What would a Vietnamese street food pitstop be without some truly, authentic Vietnamese coffee? Thao has dedicated herself over the last 15 years to making some of the finest coffee you can taste, from the bean to the cup (even grinding the beans herself!). She'll serve you up the classics, like Bac Xui (milky Vietnamese coffee) or Cafe Sua Da (Iced coffee), but don't miss the egg coffee, coconut coffee, salted coffee, and peanut butter coffee - you'll love them all!
